Interview with Nina Nesbitt

Who is your musical inspiration?
I don't really have one particular inspiration, I like to take inspiration from lots of different people. An example of some people who inspire my music are Ellie Goulding, Eva Cassidy, Joni Mitchell, Ed Sheeran and Example.

You direct, produce and edit your videos, do you want to keep it that way so you have control over the message that your music sends out?
For the last EP that was the best option I think because it was all live takes and had a raw and home made feel to it so I think making my own videos for it just added to that. It was also a very cost effective option! They cost nothing to make and I got to do exactly what I wanted to do so it worked out well I feel. I never set out to make my own videos at all they just kind of came around, I got bored one night whilst back home and came up with the note book concept for Glue.

Had you always wanted to get into music? If not what was your ideal career?
I've always been interested in it and loved singing but not thought I could do it as a career as I know it's very hard to get in to, but with the current opportunities I've been given its been amazing and I'm very happy to be able to do what I love! If I hadn't been a singer I think I would have gone in to fashion design or psychology, I find both very interesting.

What is your favourite experience been so far?
There has been so many amazing experiences in the past six months it's hard to pin point one, but touring with ed and example or getting to perform at the SECC arena alongside such amazing artists (Jessie j, pixie Lott, olly murs etc) were definitely high lights. I also had my first ever headline gig in Glasgow last week which I really enjoyed as it was a totally different experience for me, I sold it out so it was really busy and very intimate venue so everyone was really warm and friendly and I got to meet them all after which was nice.

Do you write your own songs - if so what mood do you need to be in to write your songs?
Of course! I like to make sure I write all my own songs. I don't need to be in a particular mood to write, I write a song more or less every day! It's not something that is forced they just kind of come out. It's good to write songs all the time, it's a good way of keeping track of feelings and events.

Who is your fashion inspiration?
I wouldn't say there is a particular person, but I love all the vintage shops and quirky things. I love putting together out fits and don't intend on ever getting a stylist  as I enjoy picking out clothes myself.

Do you find that people you knew before treat you differently now?
I have a group of really close friends that treat me exactly the same, I'm still the same person it's just my surroundings that have changed in the past while. I wouldn't expect to be treated any different.

Where do you hope to be in a year?
Touring, recording, writing and more.
