Travel Interview - Marrakech, Spa and Shopping packages

Absolutely Marrakech
Even in the current economic climate there is still an increase in short breaks. This isn’t uncommon for Britain, due to weather, stress, and to celebrate special occasions. This can also help us feel a little more like our favourite ‘A Listers’. Kati Lawrence is offering exactly this with her newly founded company Absolutely Marrakech.

Absolutely Marrakech is company set up to let clients pamper themselves, shop and spend a special occasion in the sunshine of one of the most up and coming cities. At the moment this luxury experience will only be on offer to people in and around Edinburgh. “My target clients are second time or mature brides that want another option to a wild hen party, mature girl weekends away and the over 30’s…I’ll meet clients at Edinburgh to accompany them on the plane and give each of them their luxury Moroccan themed goody bag”.
There are four stages of accommodation of ranging from budget all the way up to luxury. The spa packages and treatments are consistent throughout the stages but the accommodation varies. To the left is one of the raids Kati had designed.

The spa treatments on offer are manicures, pedicures, facials but more importantly your Moroccan treatments. All products used are organic and natural and produced in Morocco.

One of the Moroccan treatments is hammam which originated in Morocco and Tunisia. This used to be the only way people in these countries could bathe and scrub. The Hamams treatment is a wonderful, eye-opening cultural experience.
Argan oil which is one of the most popular beauty products in Morocco comes from the kernels of the Argan tree which is also used in cooking and medicine.  Argan trees are only grown in North Africa, and they are in small supply therefore this makes it one of the rarest oils in the world and can lead to it being highly priced. The benefits of using the oil are it reduces wrinkles, softens skin, prevents brittle nails and improves the condition of hair. It is also commonly used by pregnant women to prevent stretch marks.

Kati has a degree in Art and Fashion, which led to her working in the fashion and retail industries as a buyer of high end designer wear.
In 2001 Kati and her husband moved from London to Marrakech.  Three years later she set up her first company ‘Decadence’ “Morocco is a very easy country to set up business”. Decadence started as a personal shopping business, which evolved into buying furniture and home wear. One client was so pleased with Kati’s taste that she was asked to redesign their house. Word of mouth led to Decadence becoming a personal shopping and interior design company.
“My A list clientele include Cate Blanchette, Tom Hanks, Leonardo Di Caprio, Kathleen Turner and Padma Lakshmi (Salmon Rushtie’s wife and model) as well as film and television producers and their wives”.
Kati plans to keep Decadence running as well as starting up Absolute Marrakech.
“In the future I plan to expand Absolute, so that I can offer clients from London and Glasgow the same packages”. Kati has also expressed an interest in the future about using her contacts to extend her packages, to offer American clients shopping and spa packages in the likes of Edinburgh and London.
Kati has been in the following publications for her personal shopping including Max Magazine (Germany), Vogue (Germany), Vogue (Spain), Conde Naste Travel, Sunday Times travel section, Sunday Times Travel magazine and also been on CNN City Guides several years ago. She is going to use some of the contacts she has made through Decadence to help with PR and competitions with her second company.  At the moment Kati plans to get featured in the Sunday times, Scotsman Editorial and Bridal magazines. There are current hopes to have the Scotsman run a competition for readers to win a luxury Marrakech experience with her.

Marrakech is the third largest Moroccan city. There are three sides to Marrakech the modern European side, GuelizMedina on the other hand consists of narrow winding passages and local shops full of character. The third is Sidi Rhanem which is where all the hip designers have their showrooms.
